I’m currently writing this because it’s been a bit since my last post and as you could maybe guess, I’m sitting in a pitch black room with no power. Thank you to snow and northern Ontario. Power outages look different for everyone. I’m going to talk about mine!

I remember as a kid loving power outages at camp because it usually meant staying inside looking out the window at a thunderstorm and playing board games surrounded by lanterns or candles. I loved this. Don’t get me wrong though, I was perfectly happy when the power was back.

Sitting in a house full of different scented candles right now… The after smell will be interesting

It was all fun and games for me, but my brothers and dad would have to make trips to the lake (which wasn’t far, but not exactly fun if it’s stormy) with buckets for water. We’d boil water on the wood stove if we needed it (did this in the winter too) and had it for bathroom needs.

After a storm at camp last winter

I think about being at home right now sitting in a dark living room with no panic listening to the storm and looking at my phone. Different power outage experience, yet I still find the enjoyment of not having anything to worry about.

It’s difficult to explain but it’s almost as if not having power puts a “pause” on your day. You can’t do everyday things as easily so it’s a time to just sit back and wait. Quite literally.

However, it is easier today to not be affected by these outages, as generators come in handy. Out at camp, we don’t get affected by power outages anymore because of this very reason. A generator is one of those things that make life just that much easier. It’s nice to be able to enjoy a storm while still having comforts, but there’s still something about a complete power outage that makes me happy.

I hope you enjoyed reading and this post maybe got you thinking about how you handle power outages! Have a great day everyone!
