Hey everyone, today I’m going to be writing about what I did last weekend while I was at my brother’s camp, which is quite literally in the middle of nowhere without any cellphone service. Forget cellphone service, our electricity also came strictly from propane, we had to pump our water to the camp from the lake, and worst of all, I had to use and outhouse all weekend… But it’s safe to say I survived and I had a great time!

My brother’s camp is on Mongoose lake, which is basically 2 and a half hours north of where I live, on a remote inland lake. We had the whole lake to ourselves all weekend as there aren’t many camps on the lake and most are owned by Americans, who can’t come up due to the border closure. But I can’t complain about having a private lake! I did lots of things that I don’t usually do, and it was great to get away from my phone.

First off, I made my parents take a hundred pictures and I took in the beauty of what was around me.

I also helped my brother stain his tiki hut, with the exception of a few details that still need to be painted. The pictures below are the before picture

(on top) and the after picture (on the bottom).

And after!!

We also took a trip to one of the sets of waterfalls on the Batchawana River, and were favoured by horseflies (not fun)

I took this time away from my social like to enjoy time with my family in general, as well as read my book and take a few walks along the train tracks. I included below a picture of where the train used to stop decades ago to drop off passengers to Mongoose lake.

I enjoyed lots of canoe rides and pontoon boat rides in the evenings too! While it was nice to get away from social media for a bit, I was happy to reconnect with those close to me once I was home. But don’t get me wrong, I would definitely recommend taking a weekend away from your phone every now and then! I hope you enjoyed reading this post and will maybe take some time to try new things that you don’t usually do during your busy life!
